Join us for ALAN PATRICOF, in dialogue with private investor, progressive public policy advocate, philanthropist and retired industrialist BERNARD SCHWARTZ as ALAN discusses his new memoir No Red Lights. This dynamic conversation wiil feature Coudert Institute member SUSAN WATERFALL as the discussion's moderator. No Red Lights offers a window into Patricof’s multifaceted life that spans the growth of an entire industry – a guidebook for younger people looking to start their entrepreneurial journey and for older people looking to write a new chapter in their lives.
ALAN PATRICOF is a Co-Founder and Chairman Emeritus at Greycroft. A longtime innovator and advocate for venture capital. He entered the industry in its formative days with the creation of Patricof & Co. Ventures, a predecessor to Apax Partners, one of the world’s leading private equity firms. He stepped back from the daily administration and operational aspects of Apax Partners in 2004 to concentrate on a group of small venture deals on its behalf.
With a 50+ year career in venture capital, Alan has been instrumental in growing the venture capital field from a base of high net-worth individuals to its position today with broad institutional backing, as well as playing a key role in the essential legislative initiatives that have guided its evolution. He has helped build and foster the growth of numerous major global companies, including, among others, America Online, Office Depot, Cadence Systems, Cellular Communications, Inc., Apple Computer, FORE Systems, NTL, IntraLinks, Audible, Axios, and Wondery. He was also a founder and chairman of the board of New York magazine, which later acquired the Village Voice and New West magazine.
Alan is active in the New York and Washington communities. He is currently a board member of the Finance Committee of Northside Center for Child Development in Harlem and the Board of Overseers of Columbia School of Business. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He holds a BS in Finance from Ohio State University and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
BERNARD L. SCHWARTZ is a private investor, a progressive public policy advocate, a philanthropist and a retired industrialist. He is currently chairman and CEO of BLS Investments, LLC, a private investment firm founded in 2006. In addition to his personal portfolio, Mr. Schwartz manages the Bernard and Irene Schwartz Foundation which focuses on four major areas of support: think tanks and economic policy advocacy organizations that develop strategies to promote U.S. economic growth and job creation initiatives; educational institutions; medical research centers; and, major New York City-based cultural organizations. Mr. Schwartz is a life-long Democrat and an active supporter of the Democratic Party.
